The FADER Music Video [Life of Artist Manager]

On this day, The FADER magazine editor-in-chief, Duncan Cooper aka 'Wildarms', was in Atlanta, hanging out with us. Duncan was working on a story about Makonnen's sudden rise to success. This was right after the "Tuesday" song blew up and we were getting radio rotation. Father and the Awful Records crew planned to shoot the music video for "Vodka On The Weekend" on this day, so we decided to have a BBQ. Duncan and a cameraman chilled with us and even made cameos in the finished music video. It started raining, but the video still turned out alright. We got kicked out the first grocery store because we came in looking like a news team, with three or four DSLR cameras. (7/12/14) - Met up in Manhattan with Boston rappers Michael Christmas, Cousin Stizz, and their managers Goodwin and Tim Larew. Goodwin is also an accomplished video director and Tim Larew is a writer and blogger who owns a popular Boston Hip Hop blog called "TheFreshHeir" (https://thefreshheir.wordpress.com). (6/1/14) - On this day, I was in Atlanta getting ready to appear in the "Club Goin Up On A Tuesday" music video. This was the version that we released prior to Drake adding a verse to the song. Uncle Leff (https://instagram.com/youngankle) of Vincent Lou Films shot, directed and edited the video. We started off getting some shots at an apartment in the city. I performed my part of the song in the video, singing the background vocals. Later on that night, we finished the video on a rooftop near downtown Atlanta. (4/29/14) - On this day my artist met with Atlanta Producer DJ Spinz (https://www.instagram.com/spinzhoodrich) to work on some music. DJ Spinz is very talented and has produced some of Hip Hop's hottest songs coming out of Atlanta. We remade some old songs that were recorded with the help of Spinz and then Producer DunDeal (https://www.instagram.com/dundealonthetrak) arrived. DunDeal is also another rising producer based out of Atlanta. One of the songs that were produced on this day ended up getting a Snoop Dogg placement, but the song was never officially released.

This was around the time Sonny Digital (http://instagram.com/sonnydigital) lived walking distance from Metro Boomin. TM88 and Southside of 808 Mafia was also there earlier working on songs with us. This was the night we made the hit song "Tuesday". We worked all day and stopped around 4 or 5am. This was a very monumental day.

How To Make A Song & Music Video In One Night [Life of Artist Manager]

On this day, Jonny Bravo, iLoveMakonnen and I were in Lilburn, GA at a townhouse that I rented for a couple months. This was a rare moment because I managed to have two artists that I worked with, in the same house. I started working on the Jonny Bravo & Swag Jesus project, the same month I started working on the iLoveMakonnen project. We were all from different cities, but we managed to link up and get great work done. We recorded songs, made new beats and shot various impromptu music videos this week. We had a very productive week. In this clip, we were working on a song called “Elegant”. Right after we recorded the song, we shot the music video in the garage. This was right after the panic attack footage when Makonnen spazzed out and kicked out his Cali friends who he flew to Atlanta to come work with us. (1/23/14) - I was invited to Super Producer Zaytoven's home studio also known as Zaytown. Zaytoven is a Multi Platinum Producer and has worked alongside Gucci Mane for years and he's also been responsible for producing some of the biggest hit songs in Hip Hop. On this day I had a meeting with his business partner and manager Al Nuke. At the time, Zaytoven and Al Nuke were was working on a project called "Zaytown Sorority" and they just released their first film "Birds of a Feather". Shanell from Lil Wayne's Young Money label was there, along with Robyn Fly and a few other emerging female artists. Check out the footage.

(12/14/13) - You're not really doing a good job as an artist manager, if other management teams aren't interested in your artist. After over a year and a half, of laying down the foundation for the iLoveMakonnen project, producer Mike Will Made It reached out to Makonnen and they started working together. At the time, Mike didn't know that I was managing Makonnen, and was interested in his partner, Jeremy, who manages Rae Sremmurd, in managing Makonnen. Jeremy has done a great job with Rae Sremmurd, but at this point, I already had Makonnen signed to an agreement. Mike understood the situation and embraced me as part of their team. Here's how the conversation went down when Makonnen revealed to Mike, that he was already signed to Prestley Snipes.
